Today’s post is dedicated to the AdventureCorps Furnace Creek 508. Beginning Saturday October 4th, 2008, 218 athletes will hit the streets for a 508 mile solo or two-man bike race through Death Valley, California. The 508 is the ultimate annual bike race with total elevation gains of 35,000 feet!

Lisa Smith-Batchen, an ENGO®-sponsored athlete will be making her second attempt at completing the 508. If you think a 508 mile bike ride is a challenge, put yourself in Lisa’s shoes. Upon completing The 508, Lisa will have traveled a whopping 810 miles on bike and foot. Earlier this year, Lisa committed herself to raising awareness for the Aids Orphans Rising organization. After crossing the finish line at the 302 mile Badwater Ultramarathon this year, she hit the road on bike to train for this Saturday’s 508. To date, Lisa has raised over $435,000 for Aids Orphans Rising and hopes to reach the $500,000 mark upon completion of the race.

If you would like to support Lisa and Aids Orphans Rising, check out Lisa’s 810 website.

Stay tuned for updates on this year’s 508!

Just the other day, I received a call from a customer inquiring about how to effectively apply an ENGO® Blister Prevention Patch to the heel area of her walking footwear. After hearing her explanation of the issue, the 2-Patch Interface Application seemed most appropriate.

Here are some tips for applying ENGO® patches to footwear where the bottom (footbed) and sides of footwear meet.

Step 1: If possible, remove your insole/footbed from your shoe. This will make applying a blister patch easier.

Step 2: Apply blister patch to top of insole/footbed, leaving approximately 1/3 to ½ of the patch to overhang and tuck underneath the insole/footbed. This provides an “anchor” for the patch to stay in place.

Step 3: Locate the opposing interface on the footwear (typically the ankle (back of shoe) or arch (side of shoe) where you often experience high friction. Apply an ENGO® patch to that location.

Step 4: Place the insole/footbed back into the footwear and go!

For additional product tips and pictures of this and other ENGO® application techniques, visit the ENGO - How it Works page.

The underlying goal set by Ulrich and Engle is to raise money for charities focused on providing better living conditions for people locally and abroad whose lives have fallen upon difficult times. One of those charities is Feeding Families, a non-profit organization devoted to proving foot to millions of people across America who might otherwise go hungry.

Should Running America be completed within 45 days, Ulrich and Engle will conquer a world record. This feat will require Ulrich and Engle to run almost 70 miles per day for 45 consecutive days! Starting in San Francisco, California on June 21st, these two men will hit the pavement, rain or shine, despite the presence of plenty of aches and pains, to raise awareness for those without a voice - the poor, hungry and unhealthy. If all goes as planned, Ulrich and Engle will arrive in New York, on July 4, 2008, just in time to celebrate America’s Independence Day.

At one time considered a mere accessory to a person’s favorite pair of shoes, socks have become an essential ingredient in the pursuit of comfort and performance. From socks infused with silver, touting anti-microbial properties, to those with individual toe slots to prevent blisters & save toenails, KillerSocks.com has you covered. At least your feet, that is…

Killersocks.com was launched in 2007 to provide active people with the best selection of high performance socks around. As the business expanded to include foot care accessories, KillerSocks.com recently introduced ENGO Blister Prevention Patches as the latest ingredient in an effort to help active individuals remain comfortable and blister-free.

Did you know??

Petroleum-based lotions and other products used to keep the skin soft and blister-free may actually clog fibers, reducing sock breathability which is essential for effective moisture transfer and blister prevention.

Be well prepared for your upcoming adventures. Your feet with thank you!

What’s ENGO?

ENGO® Blister Prevention Patches were developed to help athletes and non-athletes alike solve the age-old problem of persistent, painful blisters. Until now, bandages, tape, creams and powders were all we had to treat a blister.

The concept is simple: apply ENGO patches directly to blister-prone areas of footwear or equipment, not on skin. Its strong adhesive keeps patches in place for days, weeks, even months before requiring replacement.

The results are immediate: blisters will not form on skin protected by ENGO’s low-friction material. For existing blisters, ENGO serves as a smooth barrier, promoting faster healing time and less pain.

The guarantee is straightforward: “If you’re unhappy with the performance of ENGO® patches, for any reason, let them know and your product will be replaced or money refunded.
